Eternal Mystery

This is one of the eternal mysteries to me -

Why do people repeatedly punch the elevator button when it obviously has been pressed already?

Do they believe that when they do that, the elevator, being the intelligent creature that it is, senses their urgency and hurries up?

Let me solve that one for you!!!! Thanks to nerds like yourselves and something similar to fuzzy logic (which i presume can once again be attributed to have been developed by ur types), lifts are intelligent and are fitted with sensors which sense the urgency and close the doors faster than they otherwise would. However, it does not have any effect on the speed at which the elevator travels...try timing the door sometime....gamma

Gammey...u come up with the theory that the lift doors close at variabel speed and u even go ahead and time it...and then you call me a nerd!

PS: that's not a bad idea actually...maybe someone should think about it. U cannot change the habits of people but you can put it into good use :)

i leave the timing bit to whoever likes to do it...i studied that bit as part of my bachelors in ??? its been a long time...may be u could stick a print out in you lifts and analyse it on number of presses v time taken....
