I sometimes wonder why the aliens in all our books, movies and games always come to Earth with malevolent intentions. With the probable exception of ET, they invariably approach stealthily and attack inexplicably without so much as a warning. Why wont they ever come in peace?

Imagine, a spaceship full of exotic alien species land with permission and address the citizens of the planet "We are a delegation from the tourism department of a far away galaxy and we are here to invite you to our lovely planets to enjoy our nice tropical beaches, scenic mountains and rich historical monuments. Here are our brochures. We are willing to conduct package tours from here. Let us know what you think. We also require franchisees so if you are interested please call the number on the brochures to make an appointment. We are at the Hilton for the whole week. Thank you!"

At worst, they buy your phone numbers from some spam house and set up a telemarketing center to annoy you at inappropriate hours.

Now, why can't a movie or a book ever be based on this premise? That would be a novelty from the 'Aliens attack and we fight back against all odds' rigmarole we usually get.
