Lottery Lag Gayi!
This morning I saw a news item on TV about The lifting of the ban on lotteries in Kerala. The news item showcased the plight of a Shahul Hamid, a handicapped lottery vendor, whose life was in shambles since the ban came into effect three months ago. So much so that his family was contemplating a suicide pact.
The lifting of the ban comes as a 'new lease of life' for about 3.5 lakh vendors and agents like Shahul but what about the innumerable junta who spends all its earnings on lotteries in the hopes of breaking out of their financial shackles overnight? Is the reversal of the ban really looking into the good of the greater number? Why couldn't the govt. come up with some rehabilitation scheme for those affected by the ban instead of reversing it?
Questions! Questions!
